Những sai lầm hay mắc phải khi trả lời câu hỏi ’Wh-’/'How often’

Sai lầm hay mắc của nhiều sĩ tử IELTS đó là tập trung quá nhiều cho việc đưa ra câu trả lời “information-focused” như dưới đây:

• Maybe once a week.
• In the evenings before I sleep.
• In New World Department store.
• My parents or my friends.
• At weekends and in the evenings.

Cũng như những bài template trước đã chỉ ra, các câu trên khó mà kiếm về được cho bạn một điểm số cao và phương án tốt + dễ nhất để chinh phục ‘thách thức’ này là trả lời bằng hai hay ba thông tin khác nhau.

Cách trả lời câu hỏi Wh-’/'How often để đạt điểm cao

Q: “How often do you go to the cinema?”
A: “Well to be honest, I think I would have to say that it really depends. Like for instance, if I have the money, then it‘s quite possible that I will watch a movie in the cinema, two or three times a month. Whereas in contrast, if I’m broke, it‘s more likely that I watch movies at home on DVD. You probably know that DVDs are quite cheap here, especially compared to the price of a cinema ticket.”
Mẹo của câu trả lời nằm ở cụm “it depends” – cụm này cho phép bạn vẽ ra vài ba viễn cảnh, đồng thời là cơ hội tốt để dùng contrast language (linking words).

Step 1: Chọn cách mở đầu

• · Well to be honest…
• · Well in truth…
• · Actually to be fair…
• · Well in all fairness…
• · In actual fact…
• · In fact, in all honesty…

Step 2: Thêm một cụm “depends”

• · …I think I would have to say that it really depends.
• · …I suppose I would have to maintain that it kind of depends really.
• · …I imagine that it would depend on the situation.
• · …I guess my answer would be determined by different conditions.

Step 3: Thêm linking phrase

• · Like for instance…
• · More precisely like…
• · Like more specifically…
• · Like, to be more direct…
• · You know like, to be exact…

Step 4: Cực kì cần chú ý dùng đúng các cấu trúc sau, thành hay bại phần lớn phụ thuộc vào giai đoạn này nhé!

• · If (situation A)… then I will most likely…
• · If (situation A)… then it’s quite possible than I will…
• · If (situation A)… then as a consequence I will probably…
• · If (situation A)… then I guess it’s quite likely that I will
